In the Non-Formal Education projects, CWS works together with the Ministry of Education in Vientiane and with four training centers located in somewhat isolated areas in northern Laos.
At the four centers, ethnic minority teenagers who have not been able to finish their primary education are given literacy and mathematics training and are also provided training in skills that may be useful for them to improve their lives in their villages.
The students live at the center for about 9 months and learn skills such as; carpentry, weaving, tailoring, animal husbandry, fish farming, fruit tree cultivation, vegetable gardening, mushroom raising, welding, black-smithing, handicrafts, and others.
With their newly learned reading, writing and math skills together with some other useful and appropriate technical skills, the students are better equipped to improve their lives when they return to their villages.
Additionally CWS supports the Luang Prabang Orphanage and it's non-formal educational activities for the more than 200 orphan children living at the orphanage.
